La Belle et la Bête

Last night my tiny local cinema was showing the restored version of one of my favourite old films: the wonderful La Belle et la Bête -aka Beauty and the Beast - directed by Jean Cocteau.

I was very excited. I hadn't seen the film in forever. The accents made me giggle a little bit - properly old school - but it was as intriguing, fascinating, and a little bit scary - just as I remembered. See Peter Bradshaw's review.

As it happens, the remake with Vincent Cassel came out in France yesterday, and the reviews couldn't be more... mixed? Not sure I should give that one a go...
