Die Hard 2/58 Minutes pour vivre
(58 Minutes (Left) to Live)
aka: Die Harder, far superior title.
aka: Bruce goes to the airport to pick up his wife and blows up a bunch of terrorists.
It's Christmas Eve and John goes to pick up his wife from Dulles Airport, DC, and when terrorists take over the air traffic control system, he thinks it's his job (again... Seriously, Bruce, get the hint!) to stop the terrorists before his wife's plane and several other incoming flights that are circling the airport run out of fuel and crash. He has less than an hour to save the day.
Die Hard 2 is a good standalone film, in my opinion, but doesn't compare to the other 3 (Which would explain why I did not want to watch it and skip straight to number 3... Wasn't allowed).

It is the beginning of the 90s and it is even more apparent that John McClane is a man set in his old ways, especially when he struggles sending a fax (aaaah, a little bit of fax machine nostalgia here), or when his wife tells him to "embrace the 90s". (And made me realise that I really have a hard time remembering what life was like before the internet!)
There are some good funny dialogues again (You don't expect the Yippee-ki-yay, which makes it so sweet!) and once again, there is a very stupid white guy in charge.
(Bruce, planes, explosions... Happiness!)
What about the terrorists? Well, this time, they are American, and trying to free a drug dealer from South America somewhere. No more Germans. Apparently, but I can't really remember, the 58 minutes are clearly alluded to in a dialogue between some military guy and someone else in the control tower. I watched the film a couple weeks ago, trying to listen for this, but all I noticed was something about 2hrs, and then 90 minutes. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention, we'll just assume that.
In that context, the French title sort of makes sense once again, since it looks like it's all the passengers have left before the plane crashes, but it doesn't show a lot of follow through in the choice of the title.
What about Piege a l'aeroport? This would have been slightly simpler.
Translation grade: D - Because of the lack of continuity.
