I had never given much thought about black people's hair, and I remember that when this film came out, along with the reviews, were a few articles illustrating that not only hair was a business, but it was also, for black women, a very political statement. I just realised how little I knew about the whole thing, and how actually fascinating it all was.
I had never given much thought to Chris Rock either, but I discovered someone insightful and funny.
His celebrity status allowed him to ask more personal questions to other celebrities and every day people at hairdressers and barbers alike, which made the answers even more shocking and surprising.
This documentary is fun, informative and will leave you wanting more.
